The brothers Malech and Kotor once profited by shipping textiles, spices and raw materials among the villages on the shores of the Northern Sea. Greedy for more, they eventually abandoned honest commerce and turned to piracy, plundering the ships of former merchant partners and terrorizing the people living in those same coastal villages.
Malech, though, grew tired of the sea life when he took a wife from a village that offered the pirates safe haven. He abandoned the sea – and his brother – for the love of a woman. Malechians never became tradesmen or successful farmers (their captives were forced to raise livestock and grow crops). They became mercenaries, a willing fighting force for any cause if the price was right.
In time, Kotor also settled in a land across the Northern Sea, but his Kotori descendants continued their pirate ways.
