One of my favorite things to do is to sit on my porch during a rain shower. I love the cooler air, the fresh smell, the small puddles that form on the sidewalk and the sound of dripping water in the leaves of trees. I’m a pluvophile, “someone who finds joy and peace of mind on rainy days.”
One of Avri’s favorite places is the garden his father built around the well between his house and barn. Throughout the book, he is frequently there, sometimes with a friend, but often alone. He attaches a special significance to the sound of the wind in the garden’s trees.
I’ve thought, since the book came out, that maybe I like to listen to falling rain in trees for the same reason.
