The World of Darsinia
Darsinia Tales is a faith-based trilogy set in medieval times. Avri of Talla and his son, Caleb, are the central characters of the trilogy. In Book 1, When the King is Evil, a prince makes a ruthless choice and a civil war erupts. In Book 2, When the Enemy is Near, Darsinians’ faith is tested when a conspiracy threatens to destroy them. In Book 3, When the Land is Free, Malechians rebel against their leaders, as peace and prosperity come to Darsinia.
MAIN CHARACTERS
Avri of Talla is a middle-aged farmer who grows wheat and raises sheep. His best friend is Castor, King of the Realm. The men have been friends since Avri’s father was the king’s gardener. Avri grew up in the palace with a prince for a playmate.
Avri’s only child is Caleb. Caleb and his wife live on Avri’s farm where he manages the vineyard. Caleb and King Castor’s son, Jadon, are close friends like their fathers. Jadon is his father’s son, noble and good. Prince Devin is Castor’s elder son. His eventual rule will be a harsh one.
SETTING
Darsinia is a medieval land, similar to countries in eastern Europe and western Asia. But, Darsinia is a fictional land; its unique geography doesn’t exist in the real world. Most Darsinians live on farms, though some near the Northern Sea are fisherman. A university with a medical school operates in Kriva, but it has fewer than five hundred students.
FRIENDS OF THE REALM
King Castor established the Friends of the Realm. He was a young man when he unexpectedly became king. He assembled his friends and his father’s advisors into this group which unofficially offers advice on kingdom matters.
FAITH IN DARSINIA
Darsinians have an incomplete understanding of true faith. They do have ancient scriptures (which they call The Writings), and they know God as one God. They refer to him as Elyon, the Holy One, their Creator. Not all Darsinians hold this ancient faith, but believers and deniers respect each other and live peaceably.
IMMIGRANTS
There is a significant immigrant population in Darsinia. They came from the Pyrrian Kingdom to work as farm laborers and builders. They are not slaves; they are free to live and even return home if they wish. The Pyrrians endure prejudice and even hatred from most Darsinians, especially Prince Devin. They love Caleb since he has toiled beside them in the fields and shown them kindness and respect.
SURROUNDING NATIONS
The brothers, Kotor and Malech, were pirates on the Northern Sea generations ago. Malech choose to settle in a harbor east of Darsinia. This settlement became Arkot, the capital of Malechia. Kotor remained at sea; Kotori pirates are the scourge of the coastline.
The Pyrrian Kingdom sits on a high mountain plateau west of Larsa. The people here are generally tall, slender and fair-haired. King Farram and his aide, Camdyn, are Jadon’s friends. Their land is rocky and barren. Their people are friendly, but prefer to live in isolation.
